What's Your Favorite Part of Shelburne Museum?

When I woke up this morning, I couldn't stop thinking about just how humungous Shelburne Museum is! Did you know this place has 37 buildings, 11 shuttle stops, 6 restrooms, 4 demonstration sites, 20 gardens, and a collection of 150,000 different objects? 

How can anyone enjoy a place that is just so big? I was so bothered by the question that I soared around the grounds and asked visitors:   "What is your favorite building or object to see at Shelburne Museum?"  I found these boys and girls enjoying the grounds who knew just what to say.

"I like the Settlers' House because it's cool to see what humans did before we invented what we have today."

Thanks boys and girls!  Shelburne Museum is a fun place for everybody, because some buildings and objects can connect us to the things we enjoy from our everyday lives, while others make us wonder about what life was like in the past.  There really is something for everybody!

That's right, boys and girls!  Wild ducks have arrived to Shelburne Museum!

Did you know?

A baby duck is called a duckling, a daddy is a drake and a mommy is a hen. A whole group of ducks is called a team or paddling!

You might think ducks only quack, but we actually make all sorts of sounds! Ducks can squeak, grunt, groan, chirp, whistle, bray and growl!  Do you think I should give the Quack Pack a new name?

Color Me Webby!

One of my favorite things to do on the Museum grounds is coloring in black and white pictures. 

The shades of green on the trees and the pink, yellow, and orange flowers inspire me to fill pages and pages with color.

Adult Step:  Save the image to your computer by right clicking on it and selecting the 'Save Picture As' option. When printing, select the Full Page Print option to produce a large image on a regular 8.5 x 11'' sheet of paper. 

What art supply will you use to color between the lines of this picture?  Other than paint, crayons, markers, or colored pencils, can you find a different material to use? Maybe you will discover a whole new way to fill in this image; like different kinds of beans from the kitchen, clippings from magazines and newspapers, or assorted flowers and plants from outside. The possibilities are endless, but just remember to ask an adult permission before using any item you find.    

Let's fill in that huge white space in the background!  Draw and color a background for your Webby to live in.  What would I look like hanging out in outer space, swimming deep in the sea, enjoying a three-ring circus, or just relaxing at Shelburne Museum’s duck pond?  Choose any scene you would like - it’s completely up to you!
